Surgical Tech Snapshot
The Surgical Technology program prepares students for national certification and the ability to earn the credential Certified Surgical Technologist (CST). The CST will find employment in a hospital, surgery center, or any facility that provides procedural care to patients. As a skilled health professional, the CST is able to scrub independently for a variety of surgical specialties and procedures, and circulate with a registered nurse (RN) in the operating room.
Good things to know about Respiratory Therapists:
- Surgical Techs are right in the middle of the action, handing tools to the surgeon, helping up close, and cleaning up for all types of surgery.
- This is a physical job, they are on their feet all day.
- Typically one surgical tech per surgery.
- Important traits:
- Attentive
- High attention to detail
- Thick skinned
- Physically demanding
- Comfortable with being hand on and in the moment
- Less paperwork than other healthcare career fields!
- Certification is completed after clinicals
