Polk County Healthcare Workforce Collaborative

Year 2: Quarter 4 Summary

Quarter 4 represented the end of the school year, and this year came to an end on some strong notes. Our team was busy coordinating several events and attending others to offer a resource for students and adults interested in working in healthcare. In total, our team had a presence at 15 events during the three-month timeframe.

Some of these events were particularly noteworthy. One was the annual Build My Future, in which our team spoke with thousands of high school students from all over the state. We coordinated this event for our partners and were joined by five of them. Our group also had an opportunity to present to school counselors and educators from across the state at the annual Iowa Work-Based Learning Conference. Our 30-minute presentation was well attended and offered many follow up contacts for us to pursue. Another noteworthy event was the annual HOSA (Health Occupations Students of America) Conference. This was a fantastic opportunity because these students were already interested in a career in healthcare and had begun their journey in high school. Since these students were more advanced, it allowed us to offer our knowledge and resources to help them achieve their next steps and goals.

We now have our sights on the upcoming school year. Our team is meeting with our partners to prepare ourselves for new students who are entering the world of healthcare. Our Marketing & Data Specialist is working to revamp the website and social media channels, our Pathway Navigator is creating a communication plan to actively engage with a variety of students, and our Work-Based Learning Navigator has several new events already on the calendar to engage students interested in a wide variety of healthcare careers.
